IF YOU STUDY YOUR HISTORY OF AMERICA YOU WOULD SEE THAT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS INTENDED FOR OUR SCHOOLS TO TEACH THE BIBLE AND FOR SCHOOLS TO BE CHRISTIAN BASED. BUT THROUGH THE YEARS THE SECULAR SOCIETY HAS CHANGED OUR HISTORY BOOKS AND PUSHED CHRISTIANITY OUT OF SCHOOLS. SINCE THAT TIME OUR EDUCATIONAL PROCESS HAS GONE DOWN THE TOILET, OUR SCHOOLS HAVE BECOME VERY VIOLENT AND PERVERSE. OUR SOCIETY HAS REFLECTED THIS. I FEAR FOR THE MORAL AND PHYSICAL SAFETY OF MY KIDS GOING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS. CHRISTIANITY SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED NOT FORCED IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS. IF NOT THEN LETS CONTINUE DOWN THE TOILET. THIS OPTION I HAVE NOT LIKED.

Well I thought that the presidential address to the students was very powerful and what any parent would want and wish that their child could and would achieve. His focus on having the ability to want to achieve for yourself is crucial because everyone around you could want something for you but if you don't want it for yourself it doesn't even matter. Everyone has their own story to tell and the president delivered a speech with an importance of self worth and the ability to shape your own future and continue writing your own story with a positive no matter what you have been through, where you have come from, or who you are!

Bill, This is another example of where our culture is heading. Depending on where one lives, there is either freedom of religious expression or those in postions of authority suppress that freedom. Folks who are positioned firmly in the "light" look at something like a prayer over a meal and say that it is good and right. Those positioned firmly in the "dark" look at the same prayer and call it evil. The people in America are still in charge, the question is where are they standing, voting, and accepting, the light or the dark?

I find it scary that there is an organization whose entire reason for being is to try to proselytize in public schools. Teachers are and must be free to practice their religious beliefs in their lives, but public education is for people of all faiths. When christian teachings are used in public settings it reduces religious freedom, especially for people like me who as a Jew don't want any christian teaching being done in my childrens' classrooms. Teachers are welcome to be christians, but they must never use their position as a teacher in a public to impose their teachings on their students. If you want to do that, teach in a school sponsored by a religious organization and stay away from my children.

Justin pointed out the importance of being clear and consistently enforcing cellphone policies. That is vitally important. I am pleased with the written policy in our school. However, enforcement is certainly not consistent. Some teachers allow students to blatantly and repeatedly violate the policy without consequence. That creates serious problems within the school.
I urge everyone to follow your school's cellphone policies even if you are not in agreement with them. Neglecting to do so not only creates strife, but it demonstrates our unwillingness to submit ourselves to authority.

At first it bothered me that the teacher couldn't keep his bible on his desk at school, but then I realized something: Would this story be such a hot topic if the teacher was "Muslim"? Does catholic America want the Koran on the desk of teachers? I'm sure the answer would be a resounding "NO" --> the importance of "faith" should be taught in school... the necessity to believe in God and find the path to him that is best for each student stemming from their family value system. Other forms of adornments, ornaments, and other religious paraphernalia should be left out of sight for the equality of each student and their own path to God.
